This is an extremely controversial subject for most parents. In fact most parents who have not researched this subject for themselves will be quick to bash a nonvaxing parent of their choice. They believe this will put their child at risk from dieing a horrible death from a childhood disease.
Before I even became pregnant and begun the journey into crunchy life I had a run in with vaccines with my 3 year old golden retriever named, Maverick. YES, that is also my son’s name as well. I totally named my child after him lol.
Anyways… Maverick was due for 2 vaccinations at his appointment. I can’t recall the 2 they administered to him. My mom has his records, so I need to ask her for the names one of these days. Shortly after he had his shots his personality changed, and he became really ill. My mom took him back to the vets a week later when things didn’t improve. He had a blood test. He had autoimmune disease. Soon after we found out everything went down hill. He had to get a blood transfusion, because his antibodies were attacking his blood cells. When we saw him after the transfusion he was limping into the room. This broke my heart. My dogs are family members to me. I hardly look at them as animals. My family took this really hard.
He had jaundice really bad… his eyes, gums, and nose were yellow. He stunk of the medicines they were giving him. He got worse…
He couldn’t walk up and down the stairs anymore. He was extremely lethargic. When he finally stopped moving and stayed curled up on the basement floor… my hope for him to recover was diminishing. I was the most hopeful out of my family even…
I tried helping him up to use the bathroom but he moaned. He went on the floor. That night I kissed him good night and stayed with him for an hour before going to bed. My sister slept on the floor next to him.
I woke up the next morning to a scream and crying soon following. I went down stairs and Maverick was lying on the floor dead. My family was all around him sobbing.
My dad tried picking him up to take him outside to the bathroom. Maverick died in his arms.
Later my mom confronted the vet about the shots. He believes it was the shots that did this to Maverick he said. My mom wanted to sue the vaccine makers. She called like every lawyer in the phone book, but they said they couldn’t take the case…

Fast forward 2 years later. I became pregnant and researched the hell out of giving birth to make sure I was doing the best for my son, Maverick. Near the end of my pregnancy the talk of shots after birth popped up. I didn’t do too much research, but declined all the standard procedures on my son after birth but the blood test. Vitamin K shot, Hep B, and eye drops were a no go for him. I did get the all natural birth I wanted, and started breastfeeding right after he was cleaned off.
After the birth and I started settling in to being a mom. I began researching vaccines, because his 2 month appointment was coming up when they start vaccinating by the CDC schedule.
The things I found out about vaccinating disturbed me. I came across an article about autoimmune disease being a reaction to vaccines. This was a definite confirmation with the vets that my dog died by these shots. My dog was perfectly healthy and fine until those shots. He had no prior health problems.
Also the effectiveness of vaccines came into question. Most of these vaccines were introduced after the disease was dieing out.
Also in history… The Red Scarlet died on it’s own without vaccines.
The biggest reason I don’t vaccinate are the ingredients in the vaccines. I was skeptical and thinking of just selecting certain vaccines and waiting until he was two when his brain would be 80% developed. I was going off of a study done in Japan. The rate of SIDS went down drastically after children waited until they were two to begin vaccinating.
I’m not complaining just about the Mercury that’s still in a few vaccines… I’m talking about this crap a Pediatrician wouldn’t tell me :
* aluminum hydroxide
* aluminum phosphate
* ammonium sulfate
* amphotericin B
* animal tissues: pig blood, horse blood, rabbit brain,
* dog kidney, monkey kidney,
* chick embryo, chicken egg, duck egg
* calf (bovine) serum
* betapropiolactone
* fetal bovine serum
* formaldehyde (embalms the dead)
* formalin
* gelatin
* glycerol
* human diploid cells (originating from human aborted fetal tissue)
* hydrolized gelatin
* mercury thimerosol (thimerosal, Merthiolate(r))
* monosodium glutamate (MSG)
* neomycin
* neomycin sulfate
* phenol red indicator
* phenoxyethanol (antifreeze)
* potassium diphosphate and monophosphate
* polymyxin B
* polysorbate 20, polysorbate 80
* porcine (pig) pancreatic hydrolysate of casein
