Sitting Is Killing You

Today’s tip for healthy broke people!!!

I’m sure if you are on a budget you are well-aware of the concept of buying in bulk. But cooking in bulk helps too!!! The times when we are most likely to settle for unhealthy food? When we are out of time!!! Many factors lead to that cooking for yourself tends to be healthier than eating prepackaged stuff. But seeing as honesty is one of my policies on this blog, imma just go ahead and say that that is a pain in my ass. I do like cooking, but it takes time and I don’t feel like taking that time and using all those dishes every time I want a meal. SO! I plan ahead. When I cook, I cook a lot of food. Like, 4-5 meals worth. But I don’t eat 4-5 meals worth. When you do this, know that you are cooking for that many meals, which will help you to still keep your serving size down, cause you will know that you have to make it last. Plus, I personally super enjoy leftovers, so the fact that I get a quick easy leftover meal for several meals in a row is awesome to me.

I will repeat though: stay aware and plan out that what you are cooking is for eating at specific times and has to last you until your next planned cooking day.

I have, all of my life, been a supporter of Autism Awareness and have campaigned to ensure that people with Autism are both cared for and assisted in their lives. My brother has severe Autistic Spectrum Disorder and he regularly goes to weekend or two day respite centres in order to allow both himself and the family a break from the constant pressures living with his condition causes. I won’t lie and say living with autism in your life is easy; sometimes the pressure becomes overwhelming; which is why respite centres are an important resource for those affected.

The BBC’s Panorama programme recently did an investigation into an adult care centre, which is residential, called Winterbourne View. There people with learning disabilties, including Autism, stay in what is supposed to be safe, caring and enriching environment where happy lives can be led with support contstantly available.

That is not the case in Winterbourne View.

Patients there are treated as less than human; no more than a source of entertainment to be bullied, abused and tortured by their carers. Some care workers have no experience in the field they are supposed to be working in and use force at every opportunity in order to make patients bend to their whims. In the Panorama investigation care workers and health care nurses on call all either take part in, or sit back and watch, systematic and brutal assaults that occur on vulnerable patients. Many are slapped, punched or pinned to the floor. One girl was covered in several jugs of water and left outside in freezing temperatures until she was shivering uncontrollably. Another was dragged out of bed and pinned to the floor until she became hysterical.

Whilst watching the terrible things which happened there I found myself in tears over the people who were suffering. My brother could easily have been one of them; who knows what happens in residential care homes? That’s the thing -you’re supposed to know. What’s supposed to happen is that the patient is cared for at the highest level. It’s as simple as that. Yet there was no care, nor compassion, shown at Winterbourne View. There was no humanity there.

The system has failed these people; people who suffer from illnesses which hamper their lives. They have experienced enough difficulty already - to allow them to be treated worse than animals, worse than nothing…is a breach of trust, a breach of care and a breach of human rights. What is worse is that someone reported the bullying, abuse and ill treatment which goes on at Winterbourne View before the Panorama report was filmed. Nothing was done at that time to remove the abusers and the victims continued to suffer.

For me the moment where the girl being showered in freezing water, simultaneously having shower gel and mouthwash tipped over head, called out for her mother hit me hard. I imagined my brother in a place like that; being abused and ignored and hurting. People with Autism are people; vulnerable people who need the support of their carers when entrusted into care. What is more - the families of people with Autism need the assurance that they are sending their loved ones somewhere safe. I cannot imagine the pain the families of the victims must be experiencing at seeing the terrible things being done at Winterbourne View. I know if my brother had been one of the victims I would be murderous.

Yet still I’m angry. Angry that such a thing went on for so long without check. Angry that inspections were done and nothing changed. Reports were filed, complaints made…and nothing changed. God knows how many other places like Winterbourne View are out there. But I know one thing for certain; the abusers of those they were supposed to care for deserve prison sentences. They deserve punishment for what they’ve done; as well as the companies which stood by and did nothing to stop the violence occurring. The fact that their identities are, to some extent, being protected and their interests minded appalls me. They offered those in their care no dignity - in my eyes they deserve none now.

I don’t think I will never be confident my brother is safe when away from home ever again.

What is it about exercising that as soon as we begin we want to give up? Is it our body just saying is getting tired or is our mind starting to play game with us? One thing i know is that sitting here complaining, wishing that i could finally be fit will not fix anything. We have to do it for ourselves but one thing we have to realize is that wishing does not work. Cause at the end we are the ones responsible for eating too much, too lazy, just too uninspired to do things. We could have the greatest trainer but if we don’t change our attitude nothing will change. No one will lose the weight for us so is time to get up from our butts and start making our own path towards a healthier lifestyle.

From Roger Doiron, founder and weeder-in-chief of kitchengardeners.org

here’s what he says about this great infographic:

In a nutshell, I was really inspired by the diversity and nutritiousness of the crops planted in the White House kitchen garden this spring and thought it would be eye-opening - not to mention jaw-dropping - to see what the White House garden would look like if it were planted to reflect the relative importance of the crops that are taxdollars are actually supporting.

You’ll see that there’s very little resemblance between America’s Kitchen Garden and our “Subsidy Garden”

I don’t know how useful this is, but feel free to download it, use it and share it as you wish. The data comes from the Environmental Working Group’s amazingly comprehensive and searchable Farm Subsidy Database: http://farm.ewg.org/

You can make your run easier by breathing correctly! Use the ratio 3:2 for jogging. This means inhaling for 3 steps and exhaling for 2- this regulates the amount of oxygen in your blood which further enables your muscles. For a quicker running pace, use the ratio 2:1 inhale/exhale. :)

Sharon Begley breaks down whether cell phones really present a cancer risk, following the new WHO report:

The suggestive but ambiguous, even contradictory, evidence that cell phones increase the risk of brain cancer is why the IARC panel put cell phones in the “possibly” category when it comes to cancer risks, a category that also includes pickled vegetables, coffee, DDT, the flame retardant PBB, moth balls, dioxin, and saccharin—in other words, an eclectic collection of hundreds of natural and manmade agents that evoke public reactions from “keep that away from me!” to “oh, come on.”

But how much do we need to worry about this considering our cell talk peaked in 2007 and talk time has been declining since then?

So today was day one of my new workout plan (see my goals for June post) and I think I did pretty good!

Intake:

Breakfast: homemade smoothie (frozen strawberries and peaches, fresh strawberries, a banana and milk; delish!)

Work Snack: an orange, a banana and 1 can of low sodium v8

Pre-workout snack: a bowl of plain 2% yogurt

Lunch: a huge plate of shrimp salad: shrimp tossed in homemade asian vinaigrette (ginger, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, coriander, chillies, garlic) on top of arugula, spinach, romaine lettuce, red & yellow peppers, cucumber, mushrooms, roma & cherry tomatoes. the salad leaves also came very with small portions of asiago cheese, flax seed crackers, almonds, those crunchy yellow asian noodle-looking thingies, pineapple and tangerines so we threw them in there as well. mmmm soo yummy!

Before school snack: kiwi and a small bowl of special k with red berries and milk

While driving snack (my sister fed me lol): about 6 bites of Sri lankan style lemon rice and spicy potatoes mmm

In-class snack: some blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries

Dinner: dahl (lentil curry) with spareribs on top of rice. Mmmm my mom is an amazing cook.

I also had 2 cups of green tea and some water.

Workout: I did C25K (W1D3) and 30 mins of power yoga which I absolutely love. The only workout which makes me feel energized, relaxed and rejuvenated while I sweat buckets.

So overall I think I did pretty good today, although I definitely need to up my water intake. Other than that, I think I may have gone a little overboard with the fruit; I probably should’ve substituted some of them for veggies. I wonder if it’s bad to have too many fruits in one day (ie too much sugar)? Either way, it’s definitely better than snacking on chips or cookies so I’m not upset about it. Hopefully the rest of the month goes this smoothly!

I watched this on the skinny. I never really thought about it that way. And what she was saying applied to me. I am always like: “If I lose this, then this”. I never realized i did that before I watched that video.

I’m now thinking that if you don’t love your self and are only healthy because you want to lose weight… you are going to get no where. It’s about a healthy life style. I still haven’t really grasped that but… I believe I am getting there.

Well, maybe not healthy…but pretty low in calorie, and many of these are low in fat, too! It’s so easy to get rid of that sweet tooth with all of these yummy recipes. When I looked them up, I was like…are you forreal? 150 calories!? Chocolate? Sweetness? HELLS YEAH

YOU WILL LOVE EACH OTHER

A little late on this update, but yesterday went well, at least in the actual training area. Worked out for an hour; 40min of HIIT, 10min of stairs, and 10 of stretching/walking it out. Today I am finally recovered enough from my first training session with Jennifer to even attempt wanting to lift on my own, and I definitely have to after what I ate yesterday; Hibachi and sushi, you are my diet enemy número uno. Granted, I didn’t eat anything but 1oz of hard cheese, a grapefruit, and one of my protein shakes before dinner, and then nothing after, but that was still enough calories and fats to ruin most of my hard work these last few days. Not stressing though. I’m getting better at saying no to old eating habits and realizing my cravings are only there because my body is going through sugar and carb withdrawals. Honestly, making the gym my number one priority is going to be the hardest part. Contemplating spending the extra $150 or so to start seeing my PT 3 times a week instead of 2.

Fat Burners To Drop The Weight - Could They Be Just Hype or The Real Deal?:

You must have noticed the abrupt surge of lifestyle-related health problems in our days. Most of these are arising out of extra pounds due to the more sedentary lifestyles we lead. The conveniences offered by modern technology allow us to do less physical activity so gaining weight is a common predicament among many.

To conquer this issue everyone is trying to find some alternative and one of the best possible methods to block the unwanted weight is using a fat burner. You may be wondering then if these fat burners can definitely give good results.

Think Happy Thoughts

Motivational Verse:

Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him in his hand.

-Psalm 37:24

Highlight: Sneaky lunges- OMG!!! I kept my balance, shut my eyes, kept hearing Tony, and simultaneously, thought of the Neverland mantra, “think happy thoughts…think happy thoughts.” I MADE IT without touchin’ heels on floor—-Booyah! :D

Lesson Learned: Single leg wall squats…WOW…felt like all my weight was concentrated on one leg. Immediately I started squirrelin’ around. Need to work on this BIG TIME! Couldn’t even get that 90 degree angle. For shame! :/

Funny: I sounded like Eric making noises all throughout calf raises. Seeing as its at the end of the workout, it hurts like a monkey’s uncle, especially the fast ones. Can you say OUCH!? :O

Need: a thin pillow for my buttocks. Ab Ripper X is the culprit of my pinched nerve! My yoga mat, too thin for this extreme workout, needs some extra cushion to protect my tailbone. Brought in a thin pillow and voila- problem solved! :)

obese people are not healthy. people go on about how curves are beautiful and then post pictures of obese girls. that’s not a good image to put across to young girls. it’s about as healthy as sticking a picture of an anorexic catwalk model in front of someone and saying “now, make yourself look like her”. sticking your fingers down your throat is not healthy, or attractive. but neither is gorging on a mc donalds every day, week in, week out.

curves are gorgeous. people with curves are gorgeous. but there is a fine line between being overweight & unhealthy and being lovely-looking & curvaceous.

Self-Portrait | Day 126 | 050611 |

This has got to stop.

In the last few weeks I’ve stopped working out and stopped watching what I eat. And this is the result. Urgh.

They say that it takes 28 days to break a habit.

So, as of tomorrow, I’m starting my very own 30 Day Challenge.

For 30 days I will:

  • Not drink any alcohol.
  • Work out at least four times a week.
  • Go to either Zumba or Spinning once a week. This would be more if I could afford it!
  • Not eat anything junky or with sugar in it.
  • Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
  • Drink eight large glasses of water a day.
  • Keep to 1200 calories a day.
  • Keep track of all of the above and report back. This will make me do it.

No more ‘trying to lose weight’, no more excuses. This time it’s happening.

Wish me luck!

Most of them don’t understand why I eat certain things, and can’t believe that I actually like to eat them.

Most of them are the “my favorite foods are steak and potatoes” and if you deviate from it or like other foods, then apparently you aren’t a “foodie”.

Just because I go to 5 star restaurants doesn’t mean I’ll order the steak every single time like them.

I’m not super crazy about meat. Yes, I like it, but I don’t obsess over it.

I like other foods too. Whole grains, veggies, fruits, chicken, fish, grilled foods. I don’t like eating white bread that much. I don’t eat desserts because I just don’t. I don’t have a real reason for it.

Honestly, I eat foods because I like them. The foods I don’t eat, most of the time I don’t have a real reason not to eat them. I don’t eat them because I don’t feel like it.

Just because I don’t go crazy over meat doesn’t make me less of a foodie.

I don’t like food, I LOVE it. If I don’t love it, I don’t swallow.

By Reuben Setliff

As founder and President of Setliff Sinus Institute, I have offered Midwest patients effective and compassionate care for their nasal and sinus issues for nearly 20 years. Drawing air through the nasal passages, the sinuses function as air-containing cavities within the face and skull. The eight sinus cavities are situated between, below, and behind the eyes, as well as in the forehead. Together, the nose and the sinuses make up the upper respiratory system, with the nose acting as the first line of defense against airborne diseases, pollutants, and other irritants. The nose also acts as a humidifier in hot, dry environments, protecting the bronchial tubes and the sensitive lung tissues they lead to.

One of the most important protective barriers in the nose is mucous, which coats and protects delicate tissues and linings, and possesses infection-fighting properties. The sinuses serve an invaluable function in helping the nose produce mucous. The nose and sinus cavities are connected through extremely small passageways, ensuring a constant, controlled supply of air. Mucous is transported from the sinuses and the nose down the throat via tiny hairs called cilia. A very important aspect of this muco-ciliary clearance is free movement of the mucous out of the sinuses are from the front to the back of the nose. Cases of nasal blockage cause a runny nose, which means that mucous flows toward the front of the nose rather than the back.

Even partial sinus blockage can cause a deterioration of sinus health, resulting in stuffiness, congestion, and eventually infection. Unfortunately, in these cases the nose and sinuses work in tandem to rid the sinuses of infection, resulting in more mucous, which often adds to the congestion problem. Symptoms such as fatigue, cough, fitful sleep, frequent clearing of the throat, and a reduced sense of smell indicate sinus infection if they last more than a week. At Setliff Sinus Institute, we run thorough diagnostics that help identify the root cause of the sinus or nasal problem, providing quick and straightforward solutions. About the Author: Dr. Reuben Setliff has operated Setliff Sinus Institute in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, since 1993. He remains committed to providing patients with fast and cost-effective nasal and sinus solutions.

[E]nergy beats of western and African drums can reduce stress in younger people, as they struggle to make headway in academic and professional fields. Other musical instruments like the piano, cymbals, drums, zylophone and other metal instruments have been used to treat psychological and physical diseases like Alzheimer’s, AIDS and autism. But drum and percussion beats also have healing powers, because they act as a vent for releasing negative energy and anger. In the Indian alternative healing system, percussion beats are said to open the base ‘chakra’ (energy point) in the human body, creating fresh energy to counter wasting diseases.

In Africa, there is a widespread belief that African drums mend relationships, when played in unison and teach harmony and help one “attune to the invisible world of mutual energy”. The wooden African djembe drum…is said to have potent de-stressing powers because of its repetitive rhythm. Thus, group drumming is a common form of spiritual healing in Africa.

30 Day Weight Loss Challenge, Day 2

I’m going for a walk instead of run today.

Only two miles, too.

I wish summer would come so that I can have loads of time to burn calories.

“Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos - the trees, the...

I had one today.  It was amazing.  I just realized a few things:

  1. Obviously I can’t control everything in life.
What I mean is: I can’t control that my parents have financial problems.  Technically, they don’t have money problems.  I was not, however, aware that there is a difference.  There is, though.  My parents have money.  It’s locked up in CDs right now, though, and they are unable to use it.  They have a lot of money they can’t touch until August of this year.  I can’t control this.  I, however, can control what I use of theirs.  For instance: electricity, water, food, beverage, etc.  I can control all of these and put myself on a $20 budget for food and drink.  I can control the 20 minute shower I take, or for how long I let the water run.  I can control what I leave plugged in or what light I leave on.
  2. Stress management is key in my life.
I can’t stress over every single, tiny, little thing.  That is so not healthy.  I’m really bad about it, though.  I need to learn to be logical and just not freak out before I know I have to.  And, even then, you never really should freak out about something.  For instance: food and exercise.  I always beat myself up so much for not walking that extra minute or mile.  I always beat myself up if I don’t workout.  I guilt myself out of eating what I really want which will only hurt me in the long run.  If I eat something that I think I shouldn’t have, then I stress about it.  Stress actually causes weight gain.  I need to learn how to manage it.  Ideas anyone??
  3. Food is food, calories are calories, working out is good, and water is key.
Some of you do not agree with me.  That’s fine.  I have my own mottos.  I don’t always have the patience to let the tea heat up, and I have found no alternatives to hot tea.  I’ve heard that the instant powder tea is bad for you so I don’t drink it.  Instead I opt for water with a little lemon in it.  Food, no matter what, is food.  If I’m craving something, okay.  Well, I’m probably going to have a little of that something and get over it.  I can’t feel bad about going over my calorie count anymore.  I’m eating healthier, exercising a lot more, drinking a lot of water, and I’m good.  I’m happy.  Some days I hit the slump of, ‘why do I bother.’ But I pretty quickly get over it.
  4. Moderation is your best friend.
I come from a binging type of ordeal.  I’d deprive myself so much that I’d eventually just cave and eat a shit ton of whatever I wasn’t allowing myself.  Bad.  This is so bad.  I think what a lot of people who take the weight-loss ‘plunge’ (if you will) forget is you can’t cut yourself off completely.  I have so many vices.  For instance: I absolutely LOVE pasta.  I eat it at least once a month.  It doesn’t matter when, I just do.  I love ranch potato chips (not a good example since I gave them up ‘cold turkey’ and never looked back).  It’s OKAY to treat yourself guys!  In fact, most people encourage you to!  Just keep it light.  Usually once you have a tiny amount of whatever you’re craving, you’re good to go.
  5. Live freely.
You cannot spend your life counting calories, staring at the numbers on the scale, or wasting away.  I haven’t gotten to the point in my life where I don’t count calories anymore.  I haven’t gotten to the point in my life where I don’t weigh myself anymore.  I still fret over small things.  I realize, though, that I don’t always want to be this person.  I gave up drinking because it’s a lot of extra calories.  I won’t always not drink.  I will some day learn to incorporate it into my diet (hopefully by my 21st birthday).  I want to be able to incorporate it in at least 2-4 days a month and be okay with that.  i want to know I’m okay drinking a six pack of light beer.  I won’t let somebody tell me that isn’t okay.  I enjoy drinking.  I aspire to be the girl who can go to the gym, not count calories, and live a somewhat guilt-free, stress-free life.

While I haven’t found cures for all of these things, I’m working on it.  That’s really all I can do.  I still have my days where I’m a complete jerk to myself.  I’m going to slowly ease myself from this attitude, though.

ways to de-bloat with simple food swapping:

it’s basically a give & take. a lot of the foods mention are what i have to eat because i’m anemic & need all the iron-based foods i can get. but you can always go around it, i believe. eitherway, the best way to de-bloat, diet, & maintain a healthy body is to drink lots & lots of water!

I FEEL GREAT!

My diet was decent today:

  • Fiber bar in the morning
  • Pizza roll for lunch (horrible.. I know)
  • Apple for a snack
  • Small portion of wheat noodles and Alfredo
  • A ton of water

Now I am going to make something small for my post workout meal.

Today was my first day of the biggest loser.

At the first station, we walked up and down a hill ten times. Then we ran around it, when the whistle blew, we ran up it, down it, and then around it again. Then we ran up and down it five more times.

At the second station, we went around a track and each light post had a different exercise (sit ups, push ups, squats, lunges, etc.)

Then at the final station, we sprinted to a fence, jogged back, did twenty push ups and sit ups and repeated four times. Then we stepped up on a bench, fifteen on each leg. And then worked with weights.

I am tired… But feel GOOOOOOD.

How tall are you? Do you like your height?

On my state ID, it says 5’5” and when I get my drivers’ license, it will say 5’4” because that’s what it says on my permit.

In reality, I’m 5 fee, 4 and a half inches. Have been for a while, so I better get used to it!

I wish I was taller because that way maybe I would be a little thinner, but I also love being able to feel tall when I wear heels.

How else am I supposed to feel?

Ever since I had that PAT attack, i’m pretty much easily breakable.

I just found out i’ll be on a heart monitor for three weeks, starting Thursday.

Was on one for 24 hours, hated ever second, so three weeks should be fun.

Eating healthy tonight!

Breakfast:

Vegetable Omelet (1 Egg)

Lunch:

Fruit Salad

Dinner:

Vegetable Casserole (Small Portion)

Snacks:

After dinner - Tea and Cornbread.

I ate a Cinnamon Roll at Lunch which probably wasn’t the healthiest. I regret it now, but it was delicious.

Exercise:

Swimming for Thirty Minutes

Walked Around Campus

Mini Workout After School

Full Workout After Dinner

You’d think for a newly registered dietitian, I’d have this eating healthy thing down pat, but I’m human and it is a struggle for me, just like it is for most people. That being said, I’m committing to making more of an effort for the next month.

Goals:

  • go booze-free for the next 30 days. my liver will thank me, as will my wallet. hopefully it shouldn’t be as difficult as it sounds as i’ll have to be sober throughout nxne anyways and i don’t have too many other shows lined up other than SCENE and i never really drink that day anyways
  • drink more water. this used to be so easy when i was working, i’d fill and re-fill my water bottle hourly and would end up consuming ~ 2L of water and 1.5L of tea just during the work day. it’s been harder since i’ve been off to keep up the habit but i just have to make it part of my routine. i also need to replace my stainless steel water bottle so i have something to carry with me when i go out.
  • cut out junk food/processed sugar hopefully completely. definitely overindulged in desserts over the two week period that included my birthday and graduation. and that needs to stop. allowed cheats to include frozen yogurt and gelato - but only fruit-based ones (no chocolate) and 100% fruit juice freezies, because let’s be honest, it’s hot out, i need some sort of frozen deliciousness. no baking because i just end up having to eat it all and i can’t handle the sugar.
  • have a salad with lunch and/or dinner. with the hot weather here, salads are definitely making more of a comeback in my meals. have cooked vegetables too. also, snack on cut up vegetables and hummus. pretty much, eat more vegetables. i find it so easy to feast on fruit but veggies have always been harder to consume in the appropriate number of servings for me.
  • give up cheese. i’ve actually stopped buying cheese when grocery shopping so that’s helped a lot. really only have parmegiano on pasta which doesn’t count (because i say it doesn’t count) and when eating out, especially at sky blue sky, but i’ll try to pick cheese-free options as much as possible.
  • go wheat-free. this will definitely be the hardest - i love me my bread. but as long as i try to buy gluten-free from the grocery store, it will really only be sky blue sky sandwiches that will be my cheat. i can live with that. might get harder during nxne when i’ll likely eat out more often, but i’ll try my best.
  • i think that’s all. luckily i gave up caffeine 3 years ago, so don’t have to worry about that.

How can I lose inches off my waist…in a day? :O It just happened so that I’m a 28/29 now :)). I used to be 29-31.

Oh well.

i really don’t like girls with majorly skinny legs. Dancers are sexy, Beyonce is sexy, Nicole from the pussy cat dolls is sexy, and they all have thick thighs. Having ‘a gap between your thighs’ shouldn’t be a trend. Being healthy is the way to go.

3 days till my first road race!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the medals and they’re sooo awesome!

It’s not really on my meal plan but it’s not what I intended to cut out when I started my FVP challenge so I don’t see it as a failure. I wanna cut out bread, pasta and sugar mostly for these 28 days but after that cereal I can see just how wheat makes you hungrier than you were before. No wonder I was binge eating.

How Your Meat Eating Can Kill Vegetarians:

“Factory farming produces hundreds of millions of tons of animal poop, millions of gallons of which gets dumped into cesspools that can then leak and infect water used to irrigate crops. That’s how E. coli, an intestinal pathogen found both in cows and humans, can spoil things like cucumbers and spinach.

Maybe you eat meat, and believe that it is no one’s business. Maybe you are a vegan, and prefer to not step on anyone’s toes at the dinner table. But the truth is, people who choose to eat meat from factory farms effect us all. And the effect is negative. This article is a great, although frustrating, read.

Album of the day #11- HEALTH- Get Color

Reasons I love it: HEALTH are something of an acquired taste, with constant noisey electro, buried vocals, frantic drumming and a frankly terrifying Twitter account. The band use a studio album-remix album-studio album release formula and to date have released two remix albums just as good as the original efforts. But Get Color is still their best output to date, jarring pedal screeches and squeals accompanied by thundering percussion and their signature haunting singing, it’s a tough album to get through but when you get past all the noise it’s bloody good.

Favourite Track: Die Slow

Best Lyric: “Our bones won’t grow in the dirt”- We Are Water

Current - Day 22 - weight 194 lbs

Day 15 - weight 195 lbs

Day 1 - weight 198 lbs

The Goal - Day 45 - most likely 189 lbs

Day 22 Progress

Here’s my progress so far!  Ive noticed steady improvement since Day 1 and am really starting to see how close I am to my ultimate goal.  This 45 day jumpstart has been great so far, but it only motivates me to keep it going for the rest of my life.  I have finally found a lifestyle that has created immediate results but with long term health as the ultimate goal.  My energy levels are high and constant.  My motivation, strength, and stamina feel as good as they have ever been.

The “discipline” to keep it up is almost non-existent.  I work out in the morning because it makes me feel better all day.  I eat healthy to fuel my energy and mood.  I almost never have cravings for foods outside of what Im supposed to eat.  If I cheat, its easy to forget about and get right back on track.  Its amazing whats possible when you narrow down your diet and exercise program to the few things that are truly important and beneficial.

Topiramate, better known by Topamax, is a prescription medication used mainly to help with epileptic seizures and migraine headaches.  Topamax gained approval for sale on the US Markets ins 1998, since then it has been a immensely popular drug.  One of the main reasons why Topamax has become so popular is that it works by attempting to avoid the seizures and headaches before they happen rather than simply just relieving the pain the symptoms cause.  Topamax is able to do this by keeping both the chemicals that excite the nervous system under control for migraines and not allowing the nerve cells in the brain to get excited for seizures.

Topamax, like many other prescription drugs, does have its own side effects, these side effects are predominate mainly with pregnant women. Topamax has been known to cause several types of birth defects to unborn children.  One of the most common defects are cleft lips and palates, which are gaps due to the non-fusion of the particular body parts pre-birth.   The increase of the number birth defects linked to Topamax has caused the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require the makers of the drug to revise warning labels to include possible effects on pregnant women.   The Advisory, dated March 3, 2011, has already by complied to by the makers of Topamax.

For many, however, these updates have already come too late.  Studies shows that the frequency of cleft palate/lip birth defects caused by mothers who have taken Topamax during pregnancy has risen in the recent years.   Also shown in these studies is that babies of mothers still in their first trimester of pregnancy are the most vulnerable to these side effects.   Though these birth defects are treatable, the multiple surgeries required are both costly and painful to the child.

If you believe that your child was born with a cleft palate or lip due to your Topamax in take during pregnancy then you should get the compensation that you deserve.  Though it may be difficult to gain this compensation a good Topamax Lawyer should give you the information and consultation you need to move forward.

So I got about 2.5 hours of sleep. Ugh. I am running on adrenaline and a homemade latte. Just finished cardio and stretching at the gym. I will need to nap, but hope to keep it on the short side.

Since I was up a lot last night, I thought about other things I could do that is being nice to myself and I realized I could pay more attention to my appearance. Because when I think I look good, I feel better about myself as a result?

Also this would help me declutter. You see, I have a ton of beauty samples. I’m on my 9th month as a member of birchbox.com; they send me 4-5 (sometimes more) deluxe-sized (sometimes full size) make-up, skincare, and haircare samples. I pay $10 per month or sometimes use my loyalty points toward my membership as well. While the value of the items more than pays me back, I should use it all, right? Well, I do use everything. But I could use them more often and not just on special occasions. I deserve to look and feel Bice every day. Now where is that eye cream and concealer? I need it pronto.

Health Benefits From Grape Juice http://ping.fm/Xow6b health grapes drinks

  1. Cleaning the house.
  2. Running.
  3. Going out with Jaime.
  4. Work out again.

This is what happens in my Health and Human Development class. One of my good friends draws this and says very loudly ‘MY REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM LOOKS LIKE A TELLETUBBIE!’

Hey Dudes,

The title says it all.  I don’t really know why I am not dropping more weight.  I have been doing fairly intense exercise 3 times a week.  I have given up fried food (with only one or two small slip ups).  I gave up coffee.  I have cut out most sweets (I am a sucker for fro-yo).  I have increased my veggies, cooked more and ordered out less.

My boyfriend insists that I am building muscle which is making my weight stay the same though I may be losing fat.  I have heard of this happening, but I still feel that something should be more notably different.  I am also fairly cranky because besides my usual sleep deprivation, I injured both feet in stupid ways yesterday.

At work I dropped an enormous padlock on the top of my foot, which I now feel a stabbing feeling through the center of with every step.  And then last night a curling iron fell off the bathroom counter.  I’d like to pretend that I endured the pain like some Die Hard-esque hero, but it fell so hard on my foot that it cut my toe open with it’s dull side.  I seriously screamed and cried like a toddler.  I felt like I was going to vomit - it felt like I stubbed my toe so hard that it exploded.

OK enough of that.

Anyway, I will have to give my feet a day to heal.  Not to mention my body which is basically just aching all the time at this point.  AND SLEEP.  I am so exhausted.  I feel worn fairly thin… not as thin as I’d like of course.  Buh dum bump.  I imagine a large part of my lack of weight loss has to do with my lack of sleep.  Staying up later equals more late night calories (despite my attempts to curb that) as well as no opportunity for my body to repair itself.

So now it’s time to learn the importance of sleep.  Thanks for following this stuff guys.  It keeps me honest.

the promise of rain, a 4 mile walk around the lake, our favorite gosling, a 3.5 mile run, a deer sighting, holding hands.

****

had the most unexpectedly invigorating workout last night. everything was just so calm and the air was so cool that I couldn’t help but go for a walk, then a run. I didn’t run very fast. (ten minute miles, so a jog really.) but it felt GOOD. the nagging hip trouble (hello old lady) was gone for a brief magical hour and a half, and I experienced that strange runner’s nirvana that made me fall in love with running to begin with. plus now I can do more than 10 push-ups, cause I’ve been working on them all week.

***

BAM.

I got up at 4:30 AM like any other day, made my way to our meeting spot and set out on our 5 mile course. With 6 of us running and the conversations dry we decided to have an “Indian Run”..with a twist! So the leader asked a question and everyone had to answer as they made their way to the front. The last one in line makes up another question and it continues. It was a blast hearing some of the answers and thinking up some questions. First one: What’s your favorite beer? Except since I don’t drink ( I’m 19!) they asked “What’s your favorite juice box?” Hahaha! I love my running club!

Why do athletes have a slow heart rate compared to couch potatoes?

We were supposed to go to a movie tonight, but I can’t because I can’t stop making noise. This is fucking awful.

Please read the entire article before taking any action.

Last night as I was doing the typical tumblr grind, I saw a link to a blog called zeroislove. From that, I found a link to the ED directory. In the description, it says: “This directory is in no way pro-anything. It is created so that people struggling with any kind of ED will be able to find one another. So we will be able to support each other through hard times and our strugglings. This is for the better.”

Initially I thought, okay - if this is place for people going through eating disorders or anything of the like to help each other, then great.

Well, I looked through these featured blogs and I just cried. A lot of these girls are very young and hate themselves. They are losing too much weight too fast and in the worst ways. One of them said that she lost 0.4 pounds in a day and it wasn’t good enough. Half a pound in one day? That’s not healthy! This same girl stated in her blog description that for every ? put in her ask box, she’d do 100 crunches. Another girl said she was losing weight to get a guy. The ED Directory claims to be a place of support, but support of what? They don’t seem to be supporting healthy lifestyles or healthy body images, they just seem to be listing off blogs with names like beauty-is-bones, mustbe-skinny, trappedbythin and mekillingcalories

Now let me say that I believe every girl has the right to do what she wants with her body. That being said, I also believe that no girl should hate herself.

No girl should think they have to be thin to be beautiful.

No girl should harm herself.

I’m a full supporter of living a healthy lifestyle but I think that if you want to take that route, you should be doing it for no one but yourself. And if you do, do it right - eating healthy and exercising. Get enough calories to nourish your body, otherwise it will go into starvation mode. Push yourself, but not too hard - you should feel good after you work out! Also, it isn’t the end of the world if you have a chocolate bar. Everything in moderation.

Rather than attacking the people behind the ED Directory, can you please join me in restoring the self-esteem of these girls? I think it would be so amazing to make them feel good about themselves. I will say that some of the blogs listed are run by girls who are recovering/have recovered from eating disorders, self-harm, unhealthy exercise habits, and that sort of thing - rather than just skipping past them because they seem ‘okay’ I think they should be congratulated and supported just as much as those who are still suffering.

Criticism of their lifestyles will no doubt be rejected - suggestion can be a powerful tool if used the right way. Let these girls know how gorgeous and perfect they are and let’s just encourage them - fill their ask boxes with happy thoughts, maybe links to some really positive fitspo blogs, encouraging songs (Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars, Born This Way by Lady Gaga, etc.) and anything else you can think of.

I can’t do this alone. I know this is something pretty small if you think of how many girls have EDs or cut themselves or just wish they were different…but if I can help change the thinking of one person I’ll be happy. And if I can get other people on board helping me change the warped views these girls have of themselves, I’ll be ecstatic.

Here’s the link to the ED Directory. [click here]

All I want is for these girls to see and understand that they’re beautiful whether they’re (by nature) a size 0 or a size 24. Health should always come before vanity and when you’re under-eating or over-exercising, you’re hurting your body. There’s a healthy way! ?

It's about time people take responsibility.:

I’ve been a vegetarian for 5 years. Even though I still eat dairy my body is in great shape. You don’t even have to cut meat and dairy out of your diet, just eat less of it. It will not only benefit yourself, but your loved ones as well. (=

Ah, only 353 calories left for tomorrow. That will be difficult, but it is kind of an ideal amount to eat before my weigh-in on sunday! I’ll eat a piece of chicken (300) and some veggies (20 cals) and a lower cal coffee in the morning (~33 cals) . I can handle it!!

This is how my arm currently looks like. You may wonder why a picture of my arm? One the things i dislike about my body are my arms they are flabby and i get too self conscious while wearing sleeveless shirts. One the things i definitely understand is our body decides where to lose the fat. My current goal is to have a toned arm and i will definitely reach for it, if i was the one to make it like that then i will be the one to make it toned and healthier.

I’ve been dying to try stevia for awhile since I totally avoid artificial sweeteners in all their toxicity. I’ve heard good things about it and it’s the only sweetener allowed on the melt away program. From what I’ve heard, Stevia is a plant related to sunflowers that have sweet leaves. These leaves are the source of stevia or truvia’s sweetness. Indians have been using this plant as a sweetener for centuries. You can find it at most health food stores or even some grocery stores. I’ll make a product review once I’ve tried which hopefully will be soon.
