Duke Researchers Explore Stem Cell Treatment for Children With Cerebral Palsy

You can make your run easier by breathing correctly! Use the ratio 3:2 for jogging. This means inhaling for 3 steps and exhaling for 2- this regulates the amount of oxygen in your blood which further enables your muscles. For a quicker running pace, use the ratio 2:1 inhale/exhale. :)

Sharon Begley breaks down whether cell phones really present a cancer risk, following the new WHO report:

The suggestive but ambiguous, even contradictory, evidence that cell phones increase the risk of brain cancer is why the IARC panel put cell phones in the “possibly” category when it comes to cancer risks, a category that also includes pickled vegetables, coffee, DDT, the flame retardant PBB, moth balls, dioxin, and saccharin—in other words, an eclectic collection of hundreds of natural and manmade agents that evoke public reactions from “keep that away from me!” to “oh, come on.”

But how much do we need to worry about this considering our cell talk peaked in 2007 and talk time has been declining since then?

“To be stupid, selfish, and have good health are three requirements for happiness, though if stupidity is lacking, all is lost.”

- Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880)

yum!

Gym it is, I guess!

I feel like I’m keeping the makers of Advil in business. I’m not injured, but I’m feeling pain and soreness from pushing my body to the limit. Soaking and stretching helps, but is there something else I should be doing? Please don’t say REST:) Thanks ~Kim

Duke Researchers Explore Stem Cell Treatment for Children With Cerebral Palsy :

A story from WRAL covering Duke researchers’ plans to begin studies of stem cell treatment of children suffering from cerebral palsy. This disability is caused by an injury during birth which can be caused by medical negligence. If you believe you or a loved one was injured due to such actions, an Ohio birth injury lawyer may be able to get you financial compensation that could help with long-term care.

Todays run was at the doggie beach… Took it all the way...

Public Health Issues:

Know about health issues, information and solution

This is me at 100 pounds. I don’t take mirror shots often .

Yay!

We went shopping, and although all the roommates’ stuff came out to $12 each, i bought another $15 of my own for healthy choices. Tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, bagels, whole wheat bread, and so on. :)

So I made this salad for dinner! It has a ton of lettuce, half a tomato, fried chicken filet, cheese, onions and italian dressing. :D

don’t watch this.

Anyone ever had this? I tried it for the first time this past week. Mixed it in with my water (that cup  right thurr). It didn’t taste like anything but the little seeds became soft which made for an unpleasant texture. The label suggests using this on salads and other foods. I could see mixing this in with a smoothie.

I will start off with this, since it was my inspiration for making this blog in the first place!

I encourage all to watch it on your spare time. It truly is life changing!

Todays run was at the doggie beach… Took it all the way down to huntington beach pier down the pier then back… Felt really good… small bouts of dehydration but had a hydration bottle…

I made a drawer at lunch to keep some healthy non-perishables in, so that I always have a healthy option at hand. Even if I forget to pack a lunch, I have NO excuse to go buy a fattening lunch or snack on junk food.

Pictured are: regular and mini Larabars; two containers of organic, low-calorie soup; a couple of packs of seasoned rice noodles; raw almonds; two kinds of Numi tea (Skin Detox and ReVitalize) and some green mate tea.

I’m SO happy that I finally started running again! I missed it so much. It wasn’t easy (I am sweat-ay) but it’s just so rewarding. The only thing I could have gone without was having to dodge a puddle of puke on the trail. At least it wasn’t mine haha…

3.5 lovely miles in Golden Gate Park :)

That’s where running comes in…

Reason #5 to Lift Weights (Adam Campbell)

5. You’ll Build Stronger Bones
Just like muscle, you lose bone mass as you age, too. This increases the likelihood you’ll one day suffer a debilitating fracture in your hips or vertebrae. That’s even worse than it sounds, since U.K. researchers found that among older women who break a hip during a fall, more than 50 percent will never walk again. In addition, significant bone loss in your spine can result in the dreaded “Dowager’s hump,” a condition that leaves you with a hunchback. The good news: A study in theJournal of Applied Physiology found that 16 weeks of resistance training increased subjects’ hip bone density, and elevated their blood levels of osteocalcin—a marker of bone growth—by 19 percent.

Another bone-related benefit: Researchers in Georgia found that osteoarthritis sufferers who performed leg exercises through a full range of motion three times a week reduced knee pain by up to 58 percent.

What are your favourite healthy snacks?

Put them in my ask! I need to add some more to my diet and I’m getting a bit tired of my dried edamame and usual fruits (watermelon, grapes, cantaloupe). But I want to add healthy calories to my intake, not greasy potato chips or very salty pretzels.

Todays Run...

Make yourself strong.

Make yourself strong.

NO MORE EXCUSES - MTFU / WTFU and DO IT.

NO MORE EXCUSES - MTFU / WTFU and DO IT.

This is to the people in my life who tell me they wish they had my will power to become healthy and fit.

I actually really dislike when my friends or family say to me ” I only wish I could have the same will power as you when it comes to eating healthy and exercising regularly” or ” It’s too late for me to start” because it is never too late! and if you have a body that can walk, run, jump or just MOVE then you are capable of starting a healthy lifestyle. I too once hated working out and eating healthy was not a walk in the park but people need to realize that commitment and discipline are the hardest things to overcome in the beginning of starting a healthy lifestyle and then after you have been doing it long enough, like anything else, it becomes a daily routine in your life and you don’t think about it all the time, it just happens. I’m not saying it’s effortless, you still need to work hard but what I am trying to say is sitting there wishing for everything to happen on it’s own is not going to get you anywhere, and for every day you choose to not move or eat way too many horrible foods, is one less day you will get to live your life to the fullest. So to those people, whom I know will not be reading this anyway.. I just needed to get off my chest that they are worth it and they can do whatever they put their minds to!

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this last week, our net is still really slow/down and i give up...

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this last week, our net is still really slow/down and i give up after a little while. so I’m posting this now before i lose my shit haha. (don’t fret, the net will be back with a vengeance by the 6th of June)
so this last week has been a hectic good/horrid week.
I’ve been eating 1500 cals roughly, to try and increase my metabolism again before i lower them too 900-1200. and i don’t know what to do with all this food. it doesn’t feel natural haha.

also I’m doing level 2 of the 30DS, and it’s actually killing me. and my boyfriend hurt my legs/knees this week so it’s a bit more painful that i was expecting…
I’m going to post my stats now before and now through the 30DS
bust: 36” now 35.1”
under bust: 31” now 30”
waist: 29” now 27.2
hips 35” (haven’t changed) :\

now I’m pretty pleased with this, so there is no complaining except about my hips… my damn love handles must go.
and i haven’t weighed myself, other wise i’d probably post about that too.

no onto a different subject, I’ve finally got a job. at KFC… yep, unhealthy.
i don’t mind though… i heard that working there you get over the food and i never really cared all that much for KFC. ALSO 2 other places potentially want me.
brumbys (bakery) & the body shop (healthy beauty shop) so I’m pretty excited because all these places are casual so i can maybe pick another job and work 2 jobs a week. fingers crossed.  I’m in a wonderful mood right now.

Thursday

Tumblr feels like a refuge.

Food:

1548 cal. Most other nutrients right on. Need Vitamin D, though, so I better start taking my supplements.

Also, my Bangkok Curry:

Totes worth it.

Also how I looked after showering at the gym:

I officially hate my BlackBerry. Ugh.

Exercise:

30 min. downtown walking

10 min. elliptical (5 before, 5 after run)

20 min. run (intervals - and I had to stop in the middle to use the potty. Ugh!)

145 hours to go before Chicago.

allllllegedly 740 cal. burned today.

I’m really happy with how I ate, especially since after I planned my day, some emotional triggers hit, but I had a PLAN and I STUCK TO IT and that makes me feel better. Knowing I can deal with painful memories and experiences running through my head an entire day and I didn’t deviate from the plan, and my dinner was fantastic and I’m still full and goodnight.

This whole anonymous thing seems weird to me ahaha, I don’t know if I wanna keep it up. I...

This whole anonymous thing seems weird to me ahaha, I don’t know if I wanna keep it up. I wanna be open and whatnot anyways so..

Should I post a picture of my face?

Day 57

Breakfast: 2 whole wheat waffles w/pb - 360 kcal
Lunch: kung pao chicken w/rice - 448 kcal
Dinner: chick fil a nuggets/fries (D:) - 530 kcal

Total: 1338 kcal

I go to orientation for my internship tomorrow! :] At I have to wake up at, like, 5 a.m. to leave by 6 a.m. to get to chinatown by 7:30 (because I have no idea what morning rush hour is like!)

Even though it’s so far away, it’s good pay and it’s in chinatown, which is just awesome. Even though it’s dirty and urban and whatever, it has it’s charm.
