For those of you who want to read about what I eat, I’ve been adding to one post :)

Diseases that cause breathing difficulties. http://dld.bz/pYCF health

i really don’t like girls with majorly skinny legs. Dancers are sexy, Beyonce is sexy, Nicole from the pussy cat dolls is sexy, and they all have thick thighs. Having ‘a gap between your thighs’ shouldn’t be a trend. Being healthy is the way to go.

3 days till my first road race!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the medals and they’re sooo awesome!

It’s not really on my meal plan but it’s not what I intended to cut out when I started my FVP challenge so I don’t see it as a failure. I wanna cut out bread, pasta and sugar mostly for these 28 days but after that cereal I can see just how wheat makes you hungrier than you were before. No wonder I was binge eating.

How Your Meat Eating Can Kill Vegetarians:

“Factory farming produces hundreds of millions of tons of animal poop, millions of gallons of which gets dumped into cesspools that can then leak and infect water used to irrigate crops. That’s how E. coli, an intestinal pathogen found both in cows and humans, can spoil things like cucumbers and spinach.

Maybe you eat meat, and believe that it is no one’s business. Maybe you are a vegan, and prefer to not step on anyone’s toes at the dinner table. But the truth is, people who choose to eat meat from factory farms effect us all. And the effect is negative. This article is a great, although frustrating, read.

Album of the day #11- HEALTH- Get Color

Reasons I love it: HEALTH are something of an acquired taste, with constant noisey electro, buried vocals, frantic drumming and a frankly terrifying Twitter account. The band use a studio album-remix album-studio album release formula and to date have released two remix albums just as good as the original efforts. But Get Color is still their best output to date, jarring pedal screeches and squeals accompanied by thundering percussion and their signature haunting singing, it’s a tough album to get through but when you get past all the noise it’s bloody good.

Favourite Track: Die Slow

Best Lyric: “Our bones won’t grow in the dirt”- We Are Water

For fans of: Crystal Castles, Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy

Health Benefits From Grape Juice http://ping.fm/Xow6b health grapes drinks

  1. Cleaning the house.
  2. Running.
  3. Going out with Jaime.
  4. Work out again.

This is what happens in my Health and Human Development class. One of my good friends draws this and says very loudly ‘MY REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM LOOKS LIKE A TELLETUBBIE!’

Hey Dudes,

The title says it all.  I don’t really know why I am not dropping more weight.  I have been doing fairly intense exercise 3 times a week.  I have given up fried food (with only one or two small slip ups).  I gave up coffee.  I have cut out most sweets (I am a sucker for fro-yo).  I have increased my veggies, cooked more and ordered out less.

My boyfriend insists that I am building muscle which is making my weight stay the same though I may be losing fat.  I have heard of this happening, but I still feel that something should be more notably different.  I am also fairly cranky because besides my usual sleep deprivation, I injured both feet in stupid ways yesterday.

At work I dropped an enormous padlock on the top of my foot, which I now feel a stabbing feeling through the center of with every step.  And then last night a curling iron fell off the bathroom counter.  I’d like to pretend that I endured the pain like some Die Hard-esque hero, but it fell so hard on my foot that it cut my toe open with it’s dull side.  I seriously screamed and cried like a toddler.  I felt like I was going to vomit - it felt like I stubbed my toe so hard that it exploded.

OK enough of that.

Anyway, I will have to give my feet a day to heal.  Not to mention my body which is basically just aching all the time at this point.  AND SLEEP.  I am so exhausted.  I feel worn fairly thin… not as thin as I’d like of course.  Buh dum bump.  I imagine a large part of my lack of weight loss has to do with my lack of sleep.  Staying up later equals more late night calories (despite my attempts to curb that) as well as no opportunity for my body to repair itself.

So now it’s time to learn the importance of sleep.  Thanks for following this stuff guys.  It keeps me honest.

the promise of rain, a 4 mile walk around the lake, our favorite gosling, a 3.5 mile run, a deer sighting, holding hands.

****

had the most unexpectedly invigorating workout last night. everything was just so calm and the air was so cool that I couldn’t help but go for a walk, then a run. I didn’t run very fast. (ten minute miles, so a jog really.) but it felt GOOD. the nagging hip trouble (hello old lady) was gone for a brief magical hour and a half, and I experienced that strange runner’s nirvana that made me fall in love with running to begin with. plus now I can do more than 10 push-ups, cause I’ve been working on them all week.

***

BAM.

I got up at 4:30 AM like any other day, made my way to our meeting spot and set out on our 5 mile course. With 6 of us running and the conversations dry we decided to have an “Indian Run”..with a twist! So the leader asked a question and everyone had to answer as they made their way to the front. The last one in line makes up another question and it continues. It was a blast hearing some of the answers and thinking up some questions. First one: What’s your favorite beer? Except since I don’t drink ( I’m 19!) they asked “What’s your favorite juice box?” Hahaha! I love my running club!

Like this if you’re a nerd for nutrition like me. 0:)

However, this morning I did do Cooper Test.

Cooper Test is a thing we do in soccer - you run as far as you can in 12 minutes.

The pace is set at a insane 7 1/2 laps (my coaches set everything at insane paces so we all have something to push for) but my pace today was 1.489 miles, which equates to about 5 and so freaking close to 6 laps. Like I was RIGHT THERE.

But, I will get it better next time.

I also did 10 hill sprints.

And then I did 90 crunch (30 per set, with legs at 90 degrees) and then bridge (90 all together, 15 per side, per set), and then I had my brother help me with doing a crunch that you are laying on your back, you put your legs out, pull them in and then back up to hit your partner’s (in this case my brother) hands (that are help up to where you have to lift your ass off the ground to touch them) with your feet.

I think that was a terrible job explaining that. Ask if you have any questions.

Also - thank you fitblrs for helping push me this morning, I was going to be lazy and not do anything, but then I saw a post about a non-gym workout (the one I reblogged) and then I was like… “okay. I need to run.” So i did.

woo.

I’m not surprised. I’m still at the same weight as last week. Better than a gain I suppose. Going to mix things up this week with circuit training and more cardio and endurance stuff rather than strength.

Last week I talked about starting Chalene Johnson’s “Turbo Fire” workout. The picture below speaks for itself. I haven’t sweat this much (including my pony tail!), and needed to stretch as long as I did post workout in a long time! Although it was my first class, I used the hand weights to kick it up a notch. Holy crud, it was intense! The moves were confusing at first, I even had to rewind a few times to make sure I got it down, but once the music starts going, and you get into the groove, it gets a lot easier. I’m looking forward to tomorrows class!

I don’t plan on posting everyday. I only wanted to post my first thoughts on the workout and hopefully will be able to post my progress at the end of every week.

AND HELLO TO ALL MY NEW FOLLOWERS! ? ? ?

Really good day yesterday Was cramming for a psych exam and struggled to beat boredom eating! Really sore knees though, think I should give the running a miss today until they’re better.

I stumbled across the most awesome thing the other day.  PBS has episodes of Julia Child’s The French Chef!  What better than to watch her cooking Indian food??  My two favorite culinary themes (Julia Child and Indian food).  Since I am taking a Punjabi cooking class this week, I relished in Julia’s attempts to try her hand at Indian cooking.  Her usual kitchen antics of sticking her fingers in boiling water, dropping things, and asking hilarious questions continued throughout the 30 minute show.  ”Now do they use chopsticks in India?”  ”No, we like to eat with our hands and savor the experience of eating our meals.”  ”Oh, how…..interesting” I love her!

I found some great trails to start running around town.  My goal is to be running a few times each week.  It was a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  The air was crisp and clean, and the trees and plants had this refreshing smell to them.  It honestly reminded me of a summer in Bavaria (without the beer and bratwurst!)  While my stamina certainly left something to be desired, I hope with practice it will improve.  I need to remember to just leave some shorts and running shoes in my car.  If I have to drive home from work to get my things to exercise, I will not be motivated to go back out!  I also must remember to watch for bikes; as was the case in Munich when I was there a few summers ago, I nearly got taken out by a group of over eager bike enthusiasts.  They are so hardcore.

I got home all rejuvenated from my run, so I decided to cook a batch of Greek style spinach with brown rice.  The recipe is pretty standard, so I will attach a link here ( http://greekfood.about.com/od/spinachrecipes/r/Spinach-And-Rice-Pilaf-Spanakorizo.htm ).  In the spirit of being healthy, however, I substituted brown rice.  The only change is the cooking time increases just a smidgen, but otherwise the recipe is still just as good and the change is not at all noticeable.  I like this dish because it is rather healthy, it stays for quite a few days in the refrigerator, and you can make a huge batch to last you through the week.  Also, in my opinion, it is just as good cold as it is hot!  I would add some feta on top as well, but again, in the interest of cutting calories I left it out.

Not pictured are the two perfectly hardboiled eggs that I made with this!  I used the method that Ina Garten recommends: Start off with cold water, add your eggs, bring up to a boil for 2 minutes, turn off the heat and let stand for about 5-7 minutes.  The Barefoot Contessa knows best!

NJ Small Business Health Insurance for Your Employees:

It is not easy to make your employees stay for a long time if you are an owner of a small company. This is one thing that is hard to manage when it comes to running your own business. It is a natural way of people to always seek for jobs that can give them more benefits. They can even choose to start their own businesses as long as they have enough resources to do it.

Nomz that I made today. Sauteed kale sprinkled w/sea salt, organic white beans w/ onion and fire roasted crushed tomatoes and red peppers, and veggies that I steamed myself the night before, then sauteed in a teensy bit of butter, sprinkled with cilantro and thyme (I’m weird like that. Shut up).

How To Retain Employees:

For a small business, one of the challenges is keeping employees within the company. If you are a business owner, you know just how hard this can be. Many employees are always looking to move on, to take jobs that are more lucrative, or to start their own companies. This can create a fair amount of chaos on your staff since you will constantly be replacing people.

Retaining Employees with NJ Small Business Health Insurance:

A major challenge for any small business, including those in New Jersey, is to keep employees. Employees look to move forward and take jobs that have better benefits or even to start their own businesses. This creates a high turnover rate of staff, causing a constant replacing of people.

Strong>Skinny

I don’t care about the number on the scale, or the inches of my waist, hips and thighs. I don’t care about what shallow small minded people might say about my body. I don’t care that I will never fit into a size 00 or 0 jeans. I have no interest in being the skinniest girl in the room or about how many calories I’m consuming everyday. What I DO care about is how much more I can bench press next week, or how much longer I can last on the bike, or on the running trail. I care about how much faster I’m running and how much harder I’m pushing. About the more reps and sets I can do because of how much stronger I’m getting. I care about filling my body with the most nutritious and delicious food that I know will help me perform at my maximum the next day. I care that after every single workout I have given my 110% to achieve what I want; and that is to be the healthiest girl in the room, with the greatest self esteem and confidence that gets attention instead of how skinny I look in a bikini.

I am making the pledge to be STRONG vs. skinny.

Ran another 5 miles today

It was a therapeutic run. I was upset and so I went out and ran through rain, wind, stomach cramps and trying to hold down a brownie I ate earlier. I’m glad I did it- not only did I work off all the sugar I had but I also got more miles in and had some thinking time.

Now a caring young man wants to make my night by bringing me ice cream. Thanks…but no thanks…please please please don’t come over!

Just had an epiphany!

So i don’t know how many of you women order issues of Women’s Health or have ever noticed while reading one that of course it’s all pictures of other women, along with advertisments and articles within it.

But the other day I picked up a Men’s Health just for fun… and BOOM. It was filled with pictures of gorgeous, muscular, handsome, strong men. That right there is MUCH more motivating to look at rather than  women. So my new idea?… Putting those pictures in women’s magazine(; maybe us girls would all lose weight faster!

gained a little clarity since this morning

I realized how stupid it was to be freaking out about one pound. If I really am serious about breaking ALL of my bad habits (binging, purging, self-hate), then I need to calm the fuck down and not get trapped in a cycle of frustration related to my weight.

Old me would freak out, try and restrict my way to more weight loss, and inevitably feel horribly deprived and sad and go to Sonic to inhale a milkshake and then throw it up in the parking lot (yes that has happened) (yes that was a low point).

New me is going to relax- I enjoyed an egg, a slice of toast, and a few almonds for breakfast (well, lunch.. I got up at 1..) and I have some vegetarian sushi on brown rice to eat for a snack, and then I will completely enjoy the vegetarian kebobs and fruit salad my boyfriend and I are making for dinner. And if I want a beer, I’m going to fucking drink it.

And in a bit I’m going to do some strength training on the Wii fit, some yoga, and go for a bike ride or a walk when it cools down.

That is a really healthy day and it is simply an unhealthy mind that tries to convince me it’s not.
