Lipstick.

Hi there! I've been absent, doing stuff...
I was reading the lastest Aussie Vogue in the bath the other night and came across an article entitled "Lipstick Love". The writer, Sigourney Cantelo, was waxing lyrical about the return of lipstick. I was unaware (read - in denial) that it had been missing.
I always wear lipstick. Proper lipstick, with lip liner and a brush. It does take maintenance, that's undisputable, but it always makes you look polished. It's my heartfelt belief that wearing properly applied lipstick causes a calmness of mind unheard of when wearing gloss. It's the thoughtful selection of colour (red being fantastic and pin-up, pinks lending themselves to huge eyes and burgundy being gothic-glam), the careful application and the heightened effect it has on a smile... all these things combine to make a glamorous statement as opposed to "this gloss was at the bottom of my bag so I whacked it on".
I am a bit Nazi about it, but I cant help it; it seems like such a no-brainer to me. I also once read a renowned makeup artist (whose name escapes me just now) say that gloss drove him to drink and he went on to call it "nothing but porn in a tube". I doubt I will ever get that out of my head.
Plus, gloss feels weird and sometimes you can hear the gloss making 'glooping' sounds when women speak and THAT cannot be good. Imagine someone saying "Oh she was so clever, with such a sparkling wit but I couldn't concentrate on what she was saying due to this odd glooping, sucking sound and the fact that gloss was steadily migrating all over her face". Quelle horreur!
